My second, and hopefully final, resurrection. Oh, and my 2011 Awards!

I know, I know I know. Shame on me for not blogging in exactly four months. It’s disgraceful and believe me I wanted to, but I promise I have a good excuse. I got married! Yes it’s been a wonderful, life-changing, and blessed time. So please forgive me. I’m back in action as 2012 promises to be an outstanding year for films!

2011 was not so much, recent polls show that last year was the worst year for box office numbers in 16 years! However, there were still some absolute stunners that rose above the garbage. Here are my particular favorites. I did miss several films that I wanted to see last year as well, so this isn’t everything accounted for and doesn’t mean they won the awards they deserved or that anyone will agree with me, but here we are:

Alexis’ 2011 Top Ten

1.      HUGO
2.      THE ARTIST
3.      SHERLOCK HOLMES: A GAME OF SHADOWS
4.      JANE EYRE
5.      OF GODS AND MEN
6.      HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS PT.2
7.      X-MEN: FIRST CLASS
8.      DRIVE
9.      SUPER 8
10.  THE MUPPETS

Runner-Ups
1.      ANOTHER EARTH
2.      MACHINE GUN PREACHER
3.      THERE BE DRAGONS
4.      TAKE SHELTER
5.      HANNA
6.      CAPTAIN AMERICA
7.      THE CONSPIRATOR
8.      KUNG FU PANDA 2
PUSS IN BOOTS
9.      MIDNIGHT IN PARIS
10.  THOR
11.  THE HELP

So yes, as you can tell a very dry year, particularly for films I’m in to, but 2012 promises to be amazing, I think the list of films I want to see this year needs more than two hands to be counted, and that’s saying something!

One thing I loved about this past year is that for a filmmaker it was a year for movies about the movies and the three that portrayed this were all wonderful ie, The Artist, Hugo, and Super 8. I cried watching Hugo because I understood the filmmaker’s character and the despair he felt when he wasn’t doing his work. It was that depiction of the artist’s heart that won my own over and one of the many reasons why Hugo was my favorite film of the year.

Not sure what my next post will be, I need to see something amazing soon that will inspire me. Next stop this month is Shakespeare’s Corionlanus and The Hunger Games…

  1. Yay! Another post! Hehe. Yeah, the year was slim as far as movies goes, but there were some really awesome ones, as you have listed. Sherlock Holmes was my favorite of the year, of course! ;)

I just watched the Corionlanus trailer. Interesting. Also interesting is that Ralph Fiennes directed it.
